Our firm dates back to 1985 when it was founded by Timothy J. Grimes. At the time, there were few truly independent wealth management firms, and most investment advice was given by commission-based representatives of large firms. Even then, Tim had a vision of providing objective, customized advice and guidance on a fee basis to eliminate the conflict of interest that can exist with commissionable products. In many ways, we believe that Tim was a pioneer in the industry. He recognized the value in becoming a CFP (Certified Financial Planner™), and earned the designation early in his career. He was also an early adaptor of the discretionary, fee-based asset management model that has become an industry standard. After waiting for the dreaded Y2K bug to pass at the century’s turn, Grimes & Company left their broker/dealer platform and established the firm as a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), federally registered with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). What started as a sole practice years before has evolved to become the enterprise it is today, with discretionary assets under management of approximately $3 billion, over 40 employees, multiple strategically located offices, and clients across the country. The firm originally started as a family business, and there are still four family members involved today including the current President of the firm, Tim’s son Kevin, who joined his father back in 1998. While we strive to maintain the personalized service and feel of a small family practice, our team now consists of many well credentialed professionals with significant industry experience. The Management Team, including Emily Grimes Wood (joined 2002), J. Michael Grenon (joined 2006), and Adam Jacobs (joined 2010), intends to continue thoughtful growth of the firm. That said, it is a priority to never lose the culture, feel, and service model of a family run company.
