Alternative Investments
Traditionally, alternative investments do not include straight stocks or bonds. Our focus is on strategies that may invest in these asset classes or others but that use non-conventional methods such as shorting, leverage, derivatives, etc. The goal is to provide returns with low correlations to long only stocks or fixed income. Due to the broad categorization of alternatives, the risk/return profile for the asset class runs the full spectrum. Some provide for bond-like risk while others may be more in line with stocks (some even have much more volatility than stocks). The key is that the correlations to the main asset classes can be low or even negative, providing for the potential for reduced overall portfolio volatility. We match several alternative strategies together depending on the overall portfolio composition.
